As I mentioned yesterday, Scott loves cereal for breakfast so I tried to find cereal that was inexpensive but also nutritious, and tasty. Unfortunately, finding nutritious, tasty and thrifty cereals are harder to find than you'd imagine so I tried to fill my first two criteria and I'll work on finding cereals that meet all three.
I did not stockpile coupons prior to starting this process. While our first day of eating on the cheap was Tuesday, I bought a few necessary groceries on Monday night, so I allowed myself to go through the coupon pages on Monday afternoon. One of the coupons that I clipped was for $2.00 off of two bags of off-brand cereal. My local grocery store doesn't carry this cereal, so I started looking for other grocery stores that did. Thank goodness for the Internet. I found a grocery store located less than a half mile from Scott's office that was offering the cereal in 40 ounce bags for $2.99. With my coupon, we got cereal for $1.99 a bag! That's 5 cents per 3/4 cup serving! Needless to say, Malt-O-Meal Berry Colossal Crunch has become a family favorite. It tastes exactly like Crunch Berries, which are utterly delicious. I know that cereal this sugary is more suitable for dessert than breakfast, but when eaten alongside healthier foods or instead of even worse foods, it's not too bad. And besides, I'm not trying to punish my family. Everyone needs fun and familiar foods. So here's my thought for today, Malt-O-Meal makes awesome cereal. Buy it, you'll save money.

I know that our total for the day seems low, but we really ate a ton and lunch and dinner were favorite meals that Connor requested. Tomorrow we're going to have a revised game-day feast in honor of football playoffs.
Tomorrow, tea for two
I really like your blog. You're saving money, creating fun and balanced meals, but most importantly, it seems that you're eating almost all of your meals as a family. Oh, and you're really funny. Great work.
